OPEN ROAD 7
With Christmas just around the corner, I’d like to take this
opportunity to remind everyone to stay safe on our roads.
December is an especially busy period in our region, so
whether you’re heading interstate or up or down the coast,
it’s important to drive carefully and look out for each other.
I’d also like to remind Members the importance of getting
your car serviced regularly and checking safety features
before embarking on a long drive. We have NRMA car
servicing centres in Kotara and Gosford.
If you’re planning a summer holiday, don’t forget to take
advantage of great NRMA Blue discounts available through
the my nrma app. NRMA Blue offers a range of fuel,
insurance, travel and entertainment benefits that could save
the average family $806 a year.
You can also use the my nrma app to find the cheapest fuel
along your journey. Fuel prices continue to be high right
across the state but that doesn’t mean you can’t find a good
deal. I recently jumped on the app to check prices in
Newcastle and found one service station was selling at 162.9
cents a litre while another just 1km down the road was at
147.9 cents. It certainly pays to shop around.
For Members who own an electric vehicle, two NRMA fast-
chargers are now available in our region. EV drivers can
charge their vehicles for free in Wallsend and at Hunter Valley
Gardens in roughly 30 minutes.
If you’re yet to plan a family holiday, consider a road trip to
regional areas affected by the drought. It’s a great way to
reconnect, explore our country, and recharge with family and
friends while supporting regional communities.
It’s clear that this year has been one of the most significant
in our 98-year history. I’d like to personally thank you for your
continued support throughout 2018 and I wish you and
your loved ones a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.

for corporate Sydney and it’s no
different here at the NRMA. The
2018 AGM is my first as Chair and
on every measure it has been a
fantastic year for our mutual.
In our 98th year of operation,
our financial position is strong,
our reputation is ranked amongst
the highest in Australia, and our
service to our Members goes
from strength to strength. These
aren’t generic statements but
measurable outcomes that
compare the NRMA to other
Australian businesses. In fact, we
were voted the nation’s second
most trusted brand in 2018.
Our patrols responded to 1.6
million calls for help last year and
rescued almost 2,100 children and
over 1,500 pets locked in cars. It’s
not hard to see why our Members
value this service so highly.
Our financial position for the
year is strong, with profit before
tax of $129 million (up 16 per cent
on FY17) and net assets now over
$1 billion (up 11 per cent). As a
mutual, our operating model is
different to publicly listed
companies. We don’t make profit
for profit’s sake.
Our funds are reinvested back
into services that deliver value for
you and ensure you get the
maximum benefit from your
Membership. We’ve grown our
number of car servicing centres
to 23, with a new location in
Narrabeen. We’re now also
Australia’s second-largest operator
of holiday parks and are pleased
that Members and the community
have chosen to spend their family
holidays with us. Over 1.7 million
nights have been booked and
enjoyed at our parks and resorts.
Accessing our services doesn’t
just give you peace of mind, it helps
with the family budget. Our
strategic approach to reduce cost-
of-living pressures for our Members
is best encapsulated through our
popular new Membership benefit
program, NRMA Blue.
Members get free access to
exclusive benefits and I urge all
our Members to make the most
of these benefits across
fuel, insurance, travel and
entertainment. Members have
purchased over 10 million litres of
discounted fuel at Caltex service
stations to date and the benefits
through NRMA Insurance alone

We want to make it as easy as
